PEDN Team

Irene Mutumba, Founder and Executive Director

Irene Mutumba, a leading entrepreneur in Uganda, founded PEDN in 2004. Professionally trained as a teacher, Mutumba pursued a career in education prior to exploring her passion for entrepreneurship. Mutumba believes that the economic development potential of Uganda lies within youth who are trained with entrepreneurial, business, and financial skills. With a background in education, Mutumba has set out to revitalize the traditional classroom by providing programs that are taught in an encouraging atmosphere of hands-on learning.

Ashoka Fellow

Among her many great achievements, Mutumba became an Ashoka Fellow in 2005. Ashoka is the global association of the world's leading social entrepreneurs--men and women with system changing solutions for the world's most urgent social problems. Since 1981, Ashoka has elected over 2,000 leading social entrepreneurs as Ashoka Fellows, providing them with living stipends, professional support, and access to a global network of peers in more than 60 countries.  This distinction has played a pivotal role in PEDN’s development and networking opportunities.  Click here Mutumba's Ashoka Fellow profile.
