What We Do

PEDN offers a variety of youth programs which are designed to teach children business, financial, personal development, and entrepreneurial skills in an open and collaborative environment.

Young Entrepreners Program

The Young Entrepreneurs Program (YEP!) is a one-year club held weekly in the evening or on the weekends for secondary school students. This club is designed to be hands-on and to encourage children to explore new ideas. During YEP! Club meetings, students are taught entrepreneurial, business, financial, and professional development skills. These skills are taught through games, community member interaction, hands-on activities, and small group discussions. As a culminating club project, students have the opportunity to start and run their own enterprise.

Aflatoun

Aflatoun, an internationally recognized program, utilizes an activity based curriculum to teach children their value as humans, and to emphasize the importance of financial education. The Aflatoun program focuses on five core areas including personal understanding and exploration, personal rights, saving and spending, planning and budgeting, and participating in social enterprises. The program introduces students to important financial and entrepreneurial concepts such as financial responsibility, social responsibility, savings, and enterprises. In addition to presenting a theoretical context for financial management, children are encouraged to actively manage their money by saving weekly with a specific goal in mind.

Super Savers

The Super Savers program aims to re-engage parents in contributing to their children’s education and to engage children in supporting their own education.  The program accomplishes this goal through providing children a basic financial education and the opportunity to regularly save money during each four-month school term. Saved money is then used for educational fees and supplies. The Super Savers program incentivizes students and families to save money for school materials and fees, decreases dropout rates, and engenders a culture of saving among participants.

Newspapers in Education

The Newspapers in Education (NiE) program encourages students to enhance their reading and writing skills by providing weekly newspapers as an educational tool. PEDN partners with local newspapers to distribute weekly newspapers containing a special student insert. This insert showcases student articles, current events, and written student exercises. In addition, students may participate in writing competitions and join reading clubs. NiE provides students with a fun learning tool which contains up-to-date information on current events in the community.
